POPIA Notice

This notice is issued in compliance with section 18 of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

Purpose of collection

We collect your personal information for the sole purpose of generating your will document. This includes your identity details, family circumstances, asset information, and executor and beneficiary nominations.

Categories of information collected

  • Identity information (full name, date of birth, ID/passport number)
  • Contact information (WhatsApp number)
  • Address information (residential address)
  • Family information (marital status, children, guardians)
  • Estate information (executors, beneficiaries, assets)

Special personal information

Your South African ID number is classified as special personal information under POPIA. We collect it for identity verification and will-drafting purposes only. It is encrypted at rest using AES-128 encryption and is never shared with third parties except as required by law.

Recipients of information

Your personal information is not sold, shared, or disclosed to third parties except:

  • Where required by law or court order
  • To our infrastructure providers (cloud hosting, database), who are bound by data processing agreements consistent with POPIA

Retention period

Your information is retained for seven years from the date of will creation, after which it is securely deleted unless a legal hold applies.

Your rights

Under POPIA, you have the right to:

  • Access: request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Correction: request correction of inaccurate information
  • Deletion: request deletion of your information, subject to our legal retention obligations
  • Objection: object to the processing of your information
  • Complaint: lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator
