4Will (Pty) Ltd operates the 4Will will-drafting service. We are the responsible party for the personal information we collect, as defined under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

2. Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information when you use 4Will:

  • Your full legal name, date of birth, and residential address
  • Your South African ID number or passport number (encrypted at rest)
  • Information about your family, assets, executors, and beneficiaries as you provide it
  • Your WhatsApp phone number
  • Conversation metadata (timestamps, session progress)

3. How we use your information

We use your information solely to:

  • Generate your will document
  • Deliver that document to you
  • Comply with our legal obligations under POPIA and South African law

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your information for advertising or profiling.

4. How we protect your information

Your South African ID and passport number are encrypted using industry-standard symmetric encryption (Fernet / AES-128). All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (TLS). Access to your personal information is logged and audited.

5. Retention

We retain your will data for a period of seven years from the date of creation, in accordance with standard document retention practices under South African law. You may request earlier deletion (see section 6).

6. Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your information (subject to legal retention requirements)
  • Object to processing
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa

7. Cookies and tracking

Our website uses no tracking cookies and no third-party advertising scripts. We may use anonymous analytics to understand how visitors use the site.
